Why we chose Kite Optics

We spend a lot of time in the field, and binoculars are something we use every day. On our expedition cruises and pelagic trips, we’ve had the chance to try and compare image-stabilised binoculars from several different brands, often in very challenging conditions and for long periods of time.

What really stood out to us about Kite was the performance of its stabilisation system. Compared with other stabilised binoculars we’ve used, the image is noticeably steadier and easier to follow, especially when you’re watching from a moving boat. But it’s just as useful from the passenger seat of a car, where movement and vibration can make following a bird surprisingly difficult.

And it’s not only about moving platforms. When a bird is close, combining magnification with such a steady image lets you see an incredible amount of detail. The view almost feels three-dimensional, and that can be especially helpful when you’re trying to identify a bird in the field.

We also appreciate the practical side of them. They’re light enough to carry alongside our camera gear, and the battery lasts long enough that we don’t have to think about charging them during a day in the field.

After spending so much time comparing different stabilised systems in real field conditions, Kite is the one that has impressed us most. That’s ultimately why we decided to partner with them.
