Photographing the Iberian Lynx can be one of the most rewarding wildlife photography experiences in Europe. This tour is designed around dedicated hide sessions in carefully managed locations where the species is regularly observed, allowing photographers to work behaviour, movement and environmental frames under natural conditions.

A trip ideal for small groups, based on quality field time and a photographic approach. Here the goal is not simply to see the Lynx, but to return with strong, coherent images of one of Europe’s most emblematic predators.

In this trip you are not only photographing one of the most endangered felines in the world, you are actively supporting its recovery. A 10% of the net benefits generated by this trips are allocated directly to support ongoing Iberian Lynx conservation initiatives.

Why the Iberian Lynx?

The Iberian Lynx (Lynx pardinus) is one of world’s rarest felines.

The Iberian Lynx (Lynx pardinus) is the true symbol of one of Europe’s most remarkable conservation successes. Once on the brink of extinction, with fewer than 100 individuals remaining in the early 2000s, coordinated efforts in habitat restoration, rabbit recovery and reintroduction programmes have allowed the population to grow steadily across Spain. Today, the population exceeds 2.000 individuals in the wild.

Photographing the Iberian Lynx means witnessing not only an elusive predator, but a living example of long-term conservation success — a species that has moved from Critically Endangered to Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, yet still requires careful protection and responsible tourism.

Where and when?

In southern Spain, several key territories now hold stable breeding populations, making encounters increasingly reliable under the right conditions.

Spending time in these Mediterranean landscapes allows photographers to work natural behaviour and environmental images while respecting the species and the conservation framework that made its recovery possible.

The Lynx can be photographed throughout the year, with activity patterns influenced by season, temperature and prey availability.

The Iberian Lynx is one of Europe’s most remarkable conservation success stories.

More than one highlight…

Red Deer, Mouflon and Wild Boar are regularly encountered across the hillsides and Mediterranean woodland, often visible during the same sessions dedicated to lynx tracking. Otters are present along the rivers and reservoirs in the area, and while sightings are never guaranteed, they are a realistic possibility in the right conditions. Above, Spanish Imperial Eagle patrols its territory, Cinereous Vulture moves steadily along the thermals, and Iberian Magpie is a constant companion.

None of these species competes with the significance of the Lynx, but together they reflect the ecological depth and richness of the region and ensure there is always something of interest between Lynx encounters.

Our Lynx location in Sierra de Andújar…

Based in southern Spain, the itinerary combines specialised photography hides with additional opportunities for Mediterranean wildlife and Bird Photography, depending on season and timing. Sessions are structured around light and activity patterns, maximising your chances of meaningful encounters rather than rushed sightings.

Our estate sits within one of the strongest Iberian Lynx territories in the region, and it offers:

• More than 10 different Lynx individuals regularly use the estate, including adults, subadults and cubs.

• The Andújar population holds the highest genetic variability within the species, making it a cornerstone of long-term recovery.

Hides designed for long sessions with maximum comfort:

• No spy-glass (full light, natural sound).

• Rail systems for gimbal heads in selected hides.

• Air conditioning in summer and underfloor heating in winter.

• Bathroom facilities inside the hides.

• Hides are accessible for guests with reduced mobility.

A 4x4 Safari in a private land:

Guided by experienced local trackers, the session focuses on natural encounters in Mediterranean habitat. This is also the moment of the itinerary when other mammals are most frequently observed, offering additional wildlife photography opportunities beyond the Lynx.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Lynx activity is monitored continuously, including live camera systems to assess behaviour and optimise sessions. However, as with all wild animals, sightings and photographic opportunities cannot be guaranteed and will depend on daily activity.
