Photographing the Bearded Vulture in Spain
Bird Photography Tour
One of Europe's most iconic raptors
Bearded Vulture (Lammergeier) Photography Trip in Spain
Few birds command a landscape the way the Bearded Vulture does. With a wingspan over two metres and a habit of dropping bones from the sky to crack them open, this is one of Europe's most unforgettable raptors. On this trip we head into the Pyrenees, where resident birds and steady conditions make it one of the most reliable places in the world to photograph the species.
Trip Overview
The Pyrenees hold one of Europe's most iconic raptors, and this trip is built entirely around finding it: the Bearded Vulture.
This is a trip shaped by the bird's own rhythm — field sessions timed to catch soaring flight against the mountains, with the option to work from specialised hides for close portraits when they add real value. Available as a one-day trip from Barcelona or extended to 2–6 days, every departure is custom-made, adjusting locations, pace and balance between hides and fieldwork to your goals.
Rafael Armada guides throughout, reading light, anticipating movement and positioning for the images that matter, not just the sighting. Along the way, Golden Eagle, Black Vulture and Griffon Vulture are regular companions, with Alpine Accentor or Wallcreeper possible in winter.

In three days we combine targeted sessions for Dupont’s Lark with flexible time in nearby steppe areas. Early mornings and late afternoons maximize the soft light, while the middle of the day is used to move between hotspots or rest. The pace is relaxed, but the focus is sharp: quality encounters and time to work on the images you want.

Our guiding is done by bird photographers who know the species, the habitats, and how to translate each moment into a photograph. Positioning for eye-level shots, working with backlight or side light, and anticipating behavior are part of the experience.

A three-day trip may seem short, but it can be extended as long as you wish or can be added to a longer tailor-made tour in Spain.
