Nil Macià

Birding Guide

Nil is one of our birding guides for Barcelona and Catalonia. Originally from Montseny, he is an ornithologist and bird ringer with a strong passion for fieldwork and birdwatching.

He holds a degree in Environmental Sciences, a master’s degree in Ecology and Conservation, and a postgraduate qualification in African Wildlife Conservation. Although he has travelled to places such as Kenya and Canada in search of wildlife, the region he knows best is Catalonia, which he has explored extensively.

His work centres on environmental education, both with schools and through courses for the general public. Alongside this, he is actively involved in field research, participating in scientific bird ringing projects and other vertebrate monitoring programmes.

His field experience includes mapping bird territories in the open summit habitats of Montseny Natural Park, monitoring bird recolonisation following habitat restoration across Catalonia, and collaborating on biodiversity monitoring projects in Sant Llorenç del Munt i l’Obac Natural Park.
