Other names
Photographing the Iberian Lynx alongside a carefully selected range of Iberian raptors and nocturnal mammals in Sierra Morena represents one of the most complete wildlife photography experiences currently available in Europe. This programme combines dedicated lynx hide sessions in a core breeding territory with specialised raptor and nocturnal mammal hides in a second private reserve, allowing photographers to work a wide variety of species, behaviours and light conditions within a single structured itinerary.
Designed for small groups and built around quality field time, the week balances flagship predator photography with Iberian birds of prey and carefully managed nocturnal sessions, creating a diverse yet focused field experience.
This is not simply a lynx trip. It is a professionally guided immersion into one of Europe’s most important Mediterranean ecosystems — and a programme that actively contributes to conservation, with a portion of the net benefits allocated directly to ongoing Iberian Lynx recovery initiatives.
The Iberian Lynx (Lynx pardinus) is one of world’s rarest felines.
Why this trip?
This programme is built around one of Europe’s greatest wildlife recovery stories: the Iberian Lynx (Lynx pardinus). However, it is designed to offer far more than a single-species encounter. Working within one of the strongest lynx territories in Sierra Morena, participants photograph a species that has recovered from fewer than 100 individuals in the early 2000s to more than 2,000 in the wild today, thanks to coordinated conservation efforts across Spain and Portugal.
Photographing the Iberian Lynx means witnessing not only an elusive predator, but a living example of long-term conservation success — a species that has moved from Critically Endangered to Vulnerable on the IUCN Red List, yet still requires careful protection and responsible tourism.
At the same time, the journey provides opportunities to photograph exceptional Iberian wildlife, including the Spanish Imperial Eagle — another near-endemic species — alongside a carefully selected range of Mediterranean raptors and nocturnal mammals.
Where and when?
In southern Spain, several key territories now hold stable breeding populations, making encounters increasingly reliable under the right conditions.
Spending time in these Mediterranean landscapes allows photographers to work natural behaviour and environmental images while respecting the species and the conservation framework that made its recovery possible.
The Lynx can be photographed throughout the year, with activity patterns influenced by season, temperature and prey availability.
The Iberian Lynx is one of Europe’s most remarkable conservation success stories.
Beyond the lynx…
While the Iberian Lynx defines the core of the programme, the experience extends well beyond a single species.
A second location in central Sierra Morena introduces a dedicated raptor and nocturnal wildlife component, expanding both the ecological and photographic scope of the week. Here, sessions are conducted from specialised hides adapted seasonally to ensure natural settings and varied compositions.
You will work with some of Europe’s most emblematic birds of prey — Spanish Imperial Eagle, Golden Eagle, Bonelli’s Eagle, Griffon and Cinereous Vultures, Goshawk and Eagle Owl — alongside carefully planned nocturnal sessions that may include Genet, Red Fox, and Stone Marten.
The surrounding landscape supports a significant lynx population, reinforcing the ecological strength of the territory as a whole.
Together, these elements transform the programme into more than a lynx-focused expedition: it becomes a structured immersion into the full wildlife spectrum of Sierra Morena within a single, intensive week.
Our Lynx location in Sierra de Andújar…
Based in southern Spain, the itinerary combines specialised photography hides with additional opportunities for Mediterranean wildlife and Bird Photography, depending on season and timing. Sessions are structured around light and activity patterns, maximising your chances of meaningful encounters rather than rushed sightings.
Our estate sits within one of the strongest Iberian Lynx territories in the region, and it offers:
• More than 10 different Lynx individuals regularly use the estate, including adults, subadults and cubs.
• The Andújar population holds the highest genetic variability within the species, making it a cornerstone of long-term recovery.
• Lynx are frequently observed hunting, interacting and marking territory.
Hides designed for long sessions with maximum comfort:
• No spy-glass (full light, natural sound).
• Rail systems for gimbal heads in selected hides.
• Air conditioning in summer and underfloor heating in winter.
• Bathroom facilities inside the hides.
• Hides are accessible for guests with reduced mobility.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Lynx activity is monitored continuously, including live camera systems to assess behaviour and optimise sessions. However, as with all wild animals, sightings and photographic opportunities cannot be guaranteed and will depend on daily activity.

Iberian Lynx & Hide Photography Tour Itinerary
-
We will meet you at Madrid airport in the morning and begin our journey south towards the famous Iberian Lynx area around Andújar. The drive takes approximately 3.5 hours, gradually leaving the city behind as we enter the rolling hills and Mediterranean scrubland that form one of the last strongholds of this iconic feline.
After checking into our accommodation and allowing some time to settle in, we head straight out for our first afternoon session in a specially positioned lynx hide. This will be your first opportunity to immerse yourself in the habitat and, with luck, enjoy close photographic encounters with the Iberian Lynx as it becomes active towards dusk.
Overnight in Andújar.
-
Today is entirely devoted to Lynx photography from hides.
We begin before sunrise, taking our places quietly as the landscape awakens. Early morning often provides magical light and increased activity, offering excellent photographic conditions.
After a midday break to rest and review images, we return to the hides for an afternoon session, again focusing exclusively on Iberian Lynx. With patience and the right conditions, this full day maximises your chances of extended sightings and varied behaviour.
Overnight in Andújar.
-
We start with a final morning Iberian Lynx hide session in the Andújar area.
After lunch, we depart for our second base near Adamuz, in the province of Córdoba (approx. 2 hours). This region is renowned for its high-quality bird photography hides and well-managed setups.
Upon arrival and check-in, we head out for our first afternoon bird photography session, followed by a nocturnal hide experience, offering the possibility of photographing species active after dark.
Overnight in Adamuz.
-
These two days are fully dedicated to an intensive hide schedule.
Each day includes three daytime sessions and one nocturnal session. The selected hides and target species will depend on seasonal conditions and current activity, ensuring the best possible photographic opportunities.
The area offers controlled yet entirely natural settings, allowing close encounters and professional-level images under carefully managed conditions.
Overnight in Adamuz.
-
We continue with a full programme of four hide sessions (three during the day and one at night), further expanding photographic opportunities and species variety.
