Juan David Ramírez

Juanda is one of our birding guides and tour leaders in Colombia. Based in Medellín, he combines running his own engineering company with a lifelong passion for birds and the natural world. Since the late 1990s he has spent much of his free time exploring Colombia’s forests, mountains and wetlands, gradually building an intimate knowledge of the country’s birdlife.

Over the years he has travelled extensively across Colombia, as well as in Ecuador, Venezuela and Costa Rica, gaining broad experience with Neotropical birds and habitats. Juanda is also widely recognised for his expertise in digiscoping, a technique he has refined through years of patient observation in the field.

His dedication is reflected in his remarkable personal records: Juanda has documented more than 1,780 bird species in Colombia on eBird, placing him among the top three all-time eBird contributors in the country.
